I think King Curtis's version was on the Night Train record/CD released 1961. Earl Bostic had many hits in the 1950s - especially "Flamingo" in a similar style - so I think it's likely that Bostic was first. He died in 1965

alright...you are right BUT in my mind the pic look-a-like this. William Holden and a 'dangereous' woman in a motel room. Cigarette smoke, Dry Martinis, a naked light bulb. And that bed in background give you a hint of adult coulda-be activites. William is peeping through the blinds as some bad cat's are after him and that woman...well can u trust her?

The version I remember by Bostic was less jazzy it seems and more Raw Soul. Do you have that one?

I've heard a different Bostic version of this song actuallyThe track on my LP is slower in tempo and the guitar is absent from it. Interesting find.

Too fast, I would like to hear a slower more sultry version of this great tune.

This track is so full of atmosphere, smokey club and a large JD...I have this on LP, its very much for me fond childhood memories. I think it is fantastic, give a listen to Coleman Hawkins a treat for the ears. Barney Kessell on guitar is another to have a listen too. |
