Did you know, that this is the 2nd Version by Brenda? The first was released 1963 on the Del-Fi label before being re-recorded for motown one year later. The difference isn't that strong - but i still prefer the tamla version - marvellous!

Great song! Has anyone ever heard this lady sing "Love Woke Me Up This Morning" (written by Nicholas Ashford and Valerie Simpson)?

I'm amazed how so many people covered this beautiful song! I just listened to the Clash, Jam, Spencer Davis and Small Faces versions and there's more I haven't heard yet I'm sure (besides Alicia, lol). This song is a legend as is the original singer behind it. Love ya, Brenda! :)

Stop comparing Brenda with Diana. DONT FORGET Berry Gordy and Diana were lovers so it was easy for Diana to be thrown in the spot light with Berry's help.

she is beautiful her voice is incomparable and she sings When I'm Gone maybe even better (in my humble opinion)...she makes me weep...very touching voice

I am a huge Diana Ross fan, but I agree with you, sonwamac--Ross' voice can't touch Holloway's (not even close). Diana is an entertainer. Brenda is a singer. On several of her leads when she was with the original Supremes, Miss Ross had difficulty staying in tune. Great singers don't have that problem.

I think Brenda Holloway would be the first to admit that her career was nowhere near as successful as Diana Ross...I suspect Diana Ross would be the first to admit that she can't sing like Brenda Holloway

Ah...that explains it. Certainly was not able who was more talented.

Thanks for your reply...but I have always been a fan of "Ms. Ross" :-) but always thought she (even in her hey day when I was buying her records) that she had a weak voice. Still think so. |
